About Jocie Brooks

My studio is a friendly, welcoming place. I am always looking for new ways to refresh my teaching, to make lessons fun and innovative. Lessons are tailored to the learning style of each individual. Students are guided toward their own musical discoveries while developing sound skills in reading, technique, theory, ear-training and musical expression. Composing and improvisation activities help students explore their creativity.

My musical education started early, nurtured by my mother who was a piano teacher. I obtained my ARCT (Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music) and studied music at the University of Victoria, majoring in piano performance. Deciding to focus my career on teaching, I took a yearlong piano teacher training course at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Having grown up in the Comox Valley, I returned to Courtenay in 2004 where I now live with my two young children. I am actively involved in musical community, and am a member of the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers’ Association (North Island Branch) and the Comox Valley Piano Society. When I am not at the piano, I like to read, write, bird-watch and spend time in nature with my family.
